일명 '가산명사'와 '불가산명사' 정리.
가산명사
* You can use some, any, many, few with plural countable nouns
ex) Did you buy any apples?
* You cannot use singular countable nouns alone(without a/the/my, etc.)
ex) I want banana. (X) → I want a banana.
ex) There has been accident. (X) → There has been an accident.
불가산명사
* An Uncountable non has only one form(singular). (복수형 사용 불가)
ex) There is sands in my shoes. (X) → There is sand in my shoes. (단수로 받는다)
* You can use some, any, much, little with uncountable nouns
ex) We listened to some music.
I have a little work to do.
비교
* Many nouns can be used as countable or uncountable nouns, usually with a difference in meaning.
ex)
- I bought a paper to read. (=a newspaper)
I need some paper to write on. (=material for writing on)
- You can stay with us. There is a spare room. (=a room in a house)
You can't sit here. There isn't any room. (=space)
- I had some interesting experiences while I was traveling. (=things that happened to me)
They offered me the job because I had a lot of experience. (not experiences)
* Drinks(coffee, tea, juice, beer, etc.) are normally uncountable.
But you can say a coffee(=a cup of coffee) and two juices(=two cups of juice), please.
* What 으로 시작하는 감탄문의 부정관사
ex) What a diligent boy he is! (←singular)
What interesting people (they are)! (←plural, 부정관사 빠짐)
What awful weather! (←uncountable, 부정관사 빠짐)
